  • Botanical Name: Diospyros kaki Fuyu (Jiro)
  • Height: 20-30 feet
  • Spacing: 10-15 feet
  • Depth: Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots without bending them. Plant at the same level it was in the nursery. A line should be visible that shows the depth.
  • Spread: 10-15 feet
  • Light Required: Full Sun
  • Pollinator: Pollinator not needed.
  • Yield: Very productive, great yields.
  • Size: 2-4 Ft. Bareroot
  • Fruit: Large, round, reddish-orange fruit, slightly flattened, with sweet, firm, orange flesh. Non-astringent, one of the very best for fresh eating. Does not have male flowers. It will not have seeds unless planted with other varieties.
  • Zone: 7-10
  • Form: Edible
  • Flower Form: Insignificant. Creamy-white female flowers appearing solitary and the pink-toned male flowers appearing in clusters of three
  • Soil Requirements: Loamy Soil, Sandy Soil
  • Growth Rate: Moderate
  • Foliage: Oval to obovate leaves (to 6" long) emerge yellowish-green in spring, mature to glossy green in summer and turn gold to red in fall.
  • Comments: Should be havrvested when firm and has deep color. Will continue to ripen once picked. Non-astringent once ripe. Rich sweet flavor with a hint of fall spice not unlike nutmeg. Bright colored fruit adds color to fall landscape
