Petit Gris de Rennes Melon Seed

Richly Flavored French Heirloom

  • French heirloom variety
  • 2 lb. fruits with small seed cavities
  • Sweet, richly flavored flesh with powerful fragrance
  • Open pollinated
  • A flavor unlike modern melons
In our garden trials, this cantaloupe stood up to disease pressure better than most hybrid melons we grew. An open-pollinated, French heirloom, Petit Gris de Rennes produces 2 lb. fruits with small seed cavities, powerful fragrance and sweet, richly flavored flesh that have hints of caramel. Its flavor is unlike any modern hybrid melon that we've tried. The fruits are as attractive as they are delicious. They have dark gray-green skins and deep orange flesh. Cantaloupe seed can be directly sown into the garden or a Grow Tub after the danger of spring frost has passed. 85 DAYS.
