Yellow Twig Dogwood

Bright Yellow Stems in Winter

A showy flowering shrub for the landscape, Yellow Twig Dogwood is now available in a gallon pot and shipping now. Yellow Twig Dogwood is a fast-growing, multi-stemmed shrub that grows 5-8 ft. tall with a 4 ft. spread. Its yellowish-white flowers open in spring and attract butterflies. Variegated green and yellow leaves deepen to red in the fall, and bright yellow stems in winter add color to the landscape. An excellent specimen tree, Yellow Twig Dogwood grows best in fertile, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil in full sun or partial shade. Deer tend to avoid. Potted. Zones 3-7.

  • Foliage: Medium to dark green leaves deepen to red in fall.

  • Soil Requirements: Fertile, humus-rish, neutral to acid, moist but well-drained soil.
  • Growth Rate: Fast
  • Pruning: Pruning is not required, but many gardeners choose to remove 20-25% of the oldest stems in early spring of each year to stimulate growth of new stems which will display the best color. Remove suckers if wide spread is not desired.
  • Comments: Yellowish-white flower clusters give way to white berries that are enjoyed by birds later in summer. In autumn, foliage turns brilliant shades of red and orange. Its yellow stems brighten the winter landscape and add texture to the garden. Thrives in moist areas and will spread quickly to fill in an area if roots are not pruned and suckers removed.
