Purple Bee Balm offers everything gardeners love about monarda-but in a shorter, more compact package. Growing 12 inches tall with a similar spread, this sun-loving perennial features bold purple flowers from late spring to midsummer. The nectar-rich blossoms invite bees, butterflies and hummingbirds to the garden. A clump-forming perennial, monarda is related to the mint family, and the foliage emits a minty scent when crushed. For a big impact, plant Purple Bee Balm in masses. Its size also makes it ideal for container planting. Grows best in full sun to partial shade. Deer tend to avoid. Zones 4-9.
