This outstanding, cold-hardy variety successfully withstands harsh temperatures down to -30 degrees F! Sturdy, upright branches are covered with large, orange-yellow buds that open up to 1 1/2-in. bright yellow bloom trusses in late spring. The attractive dark green foliage turns various shades of red during the autumn months. Does best in full sun to partial shade. 3-5 ft. tall shrub has good resistance to mildew, pests and disease. Zones 4-8.

  • Botanical Name: Rhododendron 'Golden Lights'.
  • Height: 3 - 5 feet.
  • Spacing: 3 - 5 feet.
  • Depth: Plant at the same depth as nursery planted.
  • Spread: 3 - 4 feet.
  • Light Required: Full sun to partial shade.
  • Color: Golden-yellow blossoms.
  • Foliage: Dark green foliage in Summer followed by a variable red Fall color. Plant looses it's foliage in Winter.
  • Blooms: Late Spring to early Summer for 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Zone: 4 - 8. Hardy to -30° F.
  • Form: Deciduous, upright form.
  • Flower Form: 1 1/2 inch flowers appear in trusses of up to 12. Moderately fragrant.
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained, humus enriched, acidic soil. 4.0 to 5.5 pH.
  • Growth Rate: Moderate growth rate.
  • Pruning: Prune to shape and remove dead wood after flowering and before new flower buds form in mid-Summer.
  • Comments: Hardy azalea bred for Northern areas, developed for bud hardiness in Minnesota to survive rough Winters and has successfully proven to be very hardy. Branches are covered with large orange-yellow buds that open to bright yellow bloom trusses each Spring with a light fragrance. Somewhat rounded growth habit.
