Early Blue Honeyberry

Recommended Pollinator for Sunrise

  • Sweet-tart berries
  • Ripens ahead of strawberries
  • Grows 2-3 ft. tall
  • Can pollinate 3 Sunrise plants
  • Requires pollinator (Sunrise recommended)
  • Ideal for edible landscape
Can't wait for those first fruits of spring? Plant honeyberries. Early Blue Honeyberry is one of the earliest ripening honeyberries—and it ripens before strawberries! The berries have a sweet-tart flavor and can be used in recipes that call for blueberries. Growing 2-3 ft. tall, this shrub is easy to grow and virtually free of pests and diseases that bother other fruits. Early Blue ripens as the same time as Sunrise Honeyberry. Because two honeyberry varieties are needed for pollination, we recommend Early Blue as the pollinator for the more productive Sunrise Honeyberry. Early Blue will pollinate three Sunrise plants. Zones 3-8

  • Comments: Start fruit season with intensely flavorful honeyberries. Our Early Blue variety is early ripening, vigorous and produces lots of blue berries that are jam-packed with a wonderful sweet-tart flavor. They don't have the bitterness sometimes found in other varietes. Fruits ripen just ahead of strawberries in late May-June. Our research team describes the flavor as "blueberries with an attitude". Because they are early ripening, there are virtually no pests or diseases that bother the fruit-and no sprays are needed. Resistant to leaf burn. Bushes grow 3-4 feet tall. Another variety is needed for pollination, and we recommend the early ripening Sunrise. Growing 2-3 feet tall, Early Blue will pollinate three Sunrise honeyberry plants. Bareroot.
