With a unique form and red or yellow color, this exotic plant lures butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. Each 24-36 in. stem features a "crown" of large bell-shaped blooms in mid to late spring. Prefers full sun. Zones 3-8. 20-22 cm bulbs.

  • Foliage: Leaves at the base of the stem are either in whorls or alternate, upper part of stem is bare except for tuft at top above flowers.
  • Comments: Spikes 3-4 feet tall are crowned with bright colored, bell-shaped flowers in clusters. Plant in clumps, in a rich, well-drained sunny area. Deer and squirrel resistant. They are most effective in groups of three or more for 3 - 5 foot area. Needs winter protection. Remove flowers as they fade. Leave foliage intact until it dies back naturally. Feed with a 5-10-5 fertilizer in the fall and as growth emerges in the spring. The strong smell of the bulbs does repel moles and other burrowing animals but the customer should not rely on this alone.
