Generations of gardeners have treasured Rome Beauty apples for their gorgeous appearance and superior baking qualities. Originating in Ohio in the early 19th century, Rome Beauty Apple Tree produces medium to large, red and glossy apples with a thick skin and firm, greenish-white flesh. The rounded, juicy fruits have a fine texture. Because it is not as sweet as other apple varieties, Rome Beauty is used more for baking than eating fresh. When baked, the fruits develop more flavor and retain their shape. For the best apple production, the tree requires 700 chilling hours below 45°F. The fruits ripen in September-October.
