Growing your own potatoes is simple, fun, and a great way to save money at the grocery. But, growing potatoes in hot Southern climates can be a challenge, as these plants typically prefer cooler weather. However, with advancements in breeding, as well as some well-chosen heirloom varieties, you can grow your own potatoes in Zones 7 through 10! In fact, some of our favorite varieties, like Yukon Gold, a yellow-fleshed potato that is known for its creamy texture and buttery flavor, have been successfully grown in the South with proper care. Whether you're looking for classic Kennebec potatoes, fingerling potatoes, redskin or even blue cultivars, you can grow your own potatoes perfect for boiling, baking, and frying.
