Transplanting Broccoli Plants with Niles

Earlier in the series, Niles Kinerk, owner of Gurney’s, started Broccoli seeds in his Gurney’s Seed Starting Kit. Now, it’s time to transplant into the garden! Plus, Niles shares a refresher on direct sowing broccoli seeds.

Advice from Niles

Use a gentle fertilizer, such as Vegetables Alive! Fertilizer, in the hole when you’re transplanting. Add it again in about 4-5 weeks time.
Transplanting soil-less plugs from the Gurney’s Seed Starting Kit is easy, you can just pop them out of the tray and stick the whole plug into the ground. For similar frost protection to those shown in the video, try Hot Kaps® Frost Protection Domes
When direct sowing broccoli seeds, remember to use earthworm castings to encourage a healthy start for your seedlings. It’s one of Niles’ favorite techniques for sowing seeds.
