Planting Asparagus with Niles
Niles Kinerk, owner of Gurney’s, shows how to plant asparagus roots in your garden. Plus, you can see a comparison of regular size (called “Premium” on our website) vs. Jumbo size asparagus roots available to order from Gurney’s.
Advice from Niles
- When you plant Jumbo Asparagus plants, you’ll get more asparagus spears, larger, and quicker. Regular/Premium asparagus roots are more affordable and slightly smaller which can make them easier to plant.
- When planting bare roots (also called crowns), start with a shallow hole and spread out the roots. It’s best to give your asparagus plants a year to establish before harvesting.
