Some gardeners say Stonehead may be the perfect cabbage. The easy-to-grow plants produce tightly packed, short-cored heads that average 4-6 lbs., the perfect size for chopping into slaws, sauerkraut or cooking into other recipes. They're flavorful too! Unlike some other varieties, the heads rarely crack and burst. Stonehead matures earlier than most cabbages. Plants resist yellowing and black rot. A cool weather crop, seeds can be started indoors, and the seedlings transplanted in early spring for a summer crop. In areas with cold winters, cabbage seeds can be directly sown into the ground in midsummer for a fall crop. In zones 8 and warmer, directly sow seeds in early fall for a winter crop. 68 DAYS.
