  • Height: 3 - 10 feet.
  • Spacing: 36 inches.
  • Depth: Plant crown 1 inch deep.
  • Spread: 3 feet.
  • Light Required: Full sun.
  • Color: Yellow with golden-yellow to brown centers.
  • Foliage: l4 - 8 inch long leaves, tapering at both ends, dark green foliage.
  • Blooms: Late July - October.
  • Zone: 3 - 9 (-40° F.).
  • Form: Upright
  • Flower Form: 2 to 3 inch daisy-like flowers in closely spaced spikes.
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained and not too fertile soil.
  • Growth Rate: Fast growth rate.
  • Pruning: No pruning necessary during growing season. Cut to the ground after foliage dies back naturally in late Fall.
  • Comments: This native variety is eager to please. Beloved by birds and butterflies, 'Maximillian' produces a plethora of blooms, each with bright yellow florets surrounding a brown center. Gorgeous in meadow or wildflower gardens. It's strong, very tall stems with the top portion covered in flowers make a bold statement wherever it is planted. Very long lived, tolerant of heat and drought, thriving in poor infertile soils. Provides good cover for birds and wildliife. Also food for birds late in the year. Very vigorous perennial is attractive to all seed eating birds. Restricted States: AE, AK, GU, HI, PR.
