One of the fastest-growing evergreens you'll find, the green giant arborvitae, also known as the green giant thuja, features a tall upright habit with medium emerald sprays of thick lustrous foliage that doesn't require pruning. This plant makes an excellent windbreak and privacy hedge, all while being drought-tolerant and deer resistant. The green giant arborvitae is also typically not prone to bagworm problems, so you don't have to worry about spraying chemicals. This plant is also extremely weather-resistant and can resist frost and cold damage.
Expect your green giant thuja to have a 10-15 foot spread, with a growth rate of 36-60 inches annually, which means you can expect to have a dense, evergreen barrier in no time. These plants have a maximum height of 30 to 40 feet, however you can always trim your green giant arborvitae hedges to your desired length. These plants are also bareroot, or 'ball and burlap', which means the plant is sold without a pot and soil, so you don't have to worry about potting mix weighing down the transport. The plant also has to be more advanced to survive this transaction. Grow zones are 5-8.
