  • Soil Requirements: No special requirement. Does well in most soils, but performs best in fertile soils.
  • Growth Rate: Moderate once established, which takes approximately 3-4 weeks.
  • Pruning: Prune to encourage reblooming, and to shape plant if needed. After initial blooms
  • Comments: This easy to grow hybrid, that is much sought after due to its colorful foliage and contrasting flowers. The glossy dark burgundy foliage is eye catching and rivals purple leaf plum and pygmy barberry in color. But what sets this apart from these palnts is that wine and roses leaf color becomes darker as the growing season progresses, whereas the other two fade. The tubular shaped, hot rose-pink flowers contrast sharply with the foliaged, and are very attractive to Hummingbirds. If pruned after initial bloom, it will flower sporadically during the entire growing season. It also has the advantage of being pest free and tolerant of pollution. Used in cut flower arrangements in Europe.
