Product Details

  • Botanical Name: Iris germanica 'Rip City'
  • Height: 37 - 39 inches.
  • Spacing: 18 - 24 inches.
  • Depth: One inch deep. Set rhizome so bottom half is below ground level. Firm well and water thoroughly. Plant where they will get at least 6 hours of sun per day.
  • Spread: 18 - 24 inches.
  • Sun/Shade: Full sun to partial shade. At least 6 hours of sunlight each day.
  • Color: Close to true carmine-red with yellow-orange beards.
  • Foliage: Gluaucus green sword-like fans of stiff upright leaves with some dying back in colder climates in winter.
  • Blooms: Mid to late spring.
  • Form: Rhizomatous perennial.
  • Flower Form: Flowers are fan-shaped, with three drooping petals called falls and three upright petals called standards. Slightly sweet fragrance.
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained soil.
  • Growth Rate: Moderate growth rate.
  • Pruning: Remove spent flower stems after blooming. In late fall, cut back foliage to 6 inch fans. Clean plant debris before winter to prevent borers overwintering.
  • Comments: Closest to a true carmine-red as any other iris. High bud count keeps this iris blooming for weeks.
