- Fast-growing, deciduous shrub
- Provides a food source for birds
- Tolerates wide range of growing conditions
The Red Twig Dogwood has a lot going for it--showy flowers, a food source for birds, fast growing and tolerant of a range of conditions. What really makes this deciduous shrub stand out, though, is its red stems. They add a splash of color to the winter landscape. Growing 8-10 ft. tall with a similar spread, Red Twig Dogwood is a fast-growing shrub that produces flat-topped clusters of creamy white flowers in late spring to early summer. The flowers give way to berries which ripen in midsummer and are a food source for birds. This shrub tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, including occasional standing water and some dry conditions. Rabbits and deer tend to pass it by. It works well when planted in groups or as a hedge. For best results, plant in full sun to partial shade. Zones 2-8.
