Welcome early summer with fragrant 5-7" double, carmine red double blooms. Growing 2-3' tall, this impressive peony looks great when planted as a hedge or specimen in the landscape. Its dark shiny lobed leaves look lovely even after the blooms are gone. Plant in full sun to partial shade. 2-3 eye division. Paeonia lactiflora 'Kansas' Deer tend to avoid.

  • Height: 30-36 inches.
  • Spacing: 3 feet.
  • Depth: 1 1/2 inches below soil with eyes facing upward.
  • Spread: 30-36 inches.
  • Light Required: Full sun to partial shade.
  • Color: Carmine-red.
  • Foliage: Dark shiny lobed leaves with strong stems.
  • Blooms: Early Summer. Blooms With: German Iris, Poppies, Siberian Iris, Bleeding Hearts.
  • Zone: 3 - 8 (-30° F.)
  • Form: Herbaceous peony.
  • Flower Form: Fully double, rose-type blooms which stays upright and resists fading for a long time.
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained soil, likes fertile conditions, use well-rotted manure with planting mix.
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate growth.
  • Pruning: Remove spent flowers after blooming. Cut foliage to the ground (and remove from the garden) in Fall after heavy frost.
  • Comments: Good variety for the South. Very long lived perennial that never needs dividing. Mulch first Winter after planting. Do not cut over half of the flowers and always leave plenty of leaves on the plant.
