One of our favorite Kniphofia in our perennial flower trials, Poker Face Kniphofia adds sizzle to the garden for weeks in midsummer. Clusters of vibrantly colored, tubular flowers bloom atop spikes with sword-shaped, gray-green leaves. Its flowers attract bees and butterflies. Growing 18-20 in. tall with a 15-18 in. spread, Poker Face is an easy-care perennial for borders. Few pests and disease bother it, and it is drought tolerant, once established. It's also quite eye-catching in cut-flower arrangements. Knophofia, also known as Torch Lily, Tritoma and Red Hot Poker, grows best with planted in well-drained soil in full sun. Zones 4-9.
