A low-maintenance, colorful choice for foundation plantings or hedge, Goldflame Spirea is now available for shipping. Your Goldflame Spirea will arrive in a gallon pot and ready for planting. Growing 3-4 ft. tall with a similar spread, this shrub is noted for its foliage. In the springtime, the leaves emerge bronze-red and mature to yellow-green in the summer. In the fall, they have yellow, orange and copper hues. Clusters of rose-pink blooms cover the plant in late spring to early summer and attract butterflies. Grows best when planted in full sun. Deer tend to avoid. Potted. Zones 4-8.

Product Details

  • Botanical Name: Spirea bumalda 'Goldflame'
  • Height: 2 - 3 feet
  • Spacing: 2 - 4 feet
  • Depth: Dig a hole twice as deep and twice as wide as the container. Place the plant at the same level it is growing in the pot. Firm soil around the base of the plant and water thoroughly.
  • Spread: 2 - 3 feet
  • Light Required: Full Sun to Partial Shade
  • Color: Bright pink flowers.
  • Foliage: Spring leaves are bronze-gold, turning yellow-green with pink edges in summer, and coppery orange in fall.
  • Blooms: Early to mid summer and again in fall, if pruned.
  • Zone: 3 - 8
  • Form: Mounded
  • Flower Form: A multitude of very small, fluffy, bright pink flowers bloom in flat clusters.
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained, average garden soil.
  • Growth Rate: Slow to get established, then moderate once established.
  • Pruning: Prune hard in early spring, before new growth emerges, to encourage vigorous flowering. Prune lightly after flowering is complete, to promote reblooming.
  • Comments: Deer resistant, attracts butterflies, multi-colored foliage. Flowerheads left on the plant will dry, creating winter interest.
