Southern adapted; very showy!

Brightly colored flowers; produces reliably every year in Southern zones 6–9. Sterile flowers means it is non-invasive. Foliage is heat and sunburn resistant. High tolerance to canker—an often fatal disease of Redbuds—especially those not adapted to the South. 8–10' tall at maturity. Potted.

Form: Compact, multistemmed shrub.
Flower Form: Dense clusters of tiny, pea-shaped, bright magenta flowers are produced along the branches in early spring, before the foliage emerges.
Soil Requirements: Rich woodsy soil with plenty of organic matter. It tolerates many different soil types and is especially appropriate for areas that tend to be dry or hot. Do not plant in poorly drained areas. Adaptable to acid or alkaline soils.
Growth Rate: Slow to moderate.
Pruning: Prune to maintain a desired shape and to remove dead and broken branches. Late fall or early winter, while dormant.
Foliage: Deciduous, heart-shaped, leathery, healthy-looking, dark green foliage, 3-5" long.
