Cardinal Flower

Unusual Flower Form!

Striking, bright red blooms trail up irregular racemes to form a unique and colorful display in midsummer to fall. Beneficial pollinators, such as hummingbirds and butterflies, love both the color and flower form, which allows them easy access to the nectar hidden within. Grows quickly in well-drained, humus-rich soil, and prefers to be planted at a depth of 2-3" in a partially shaded site. Because Cardinal Flower likes to be kept moist, it's the perfect perennial for planting at the edge of a man-made pond, water feature or along the banks of a stream. Keep it watered and this native wildflower will perform exceptionally well in a border or mixed bed, as well. Zones 2-9.
  • Zone 2 - 9 (-50° F.).
  • Height 3 - 4 feet
  • Light Required Partial shade.
