Bluecrop Blueberry

Best All-Around Garden Variety

Unbeatable for consistent yields, large high-quality fruit and disease resistance. 4 to 6 ft. bush bears up to 20 lbs. of firm, light blue fruit. Berries are large—about 65 per cup compared to the 120 or so needed with other varieties. Ripens in mid July. Zones 4-7.

Product Details

  • Botanical Name: Vaccinium corybosum 'Bluecrop'; Family: Ericaceae
  • Height: 4 - 6 feet
  • Spacing: 4 - 6 feet
  • Depth: Plant at the same depth as in the nursery.
  • Spread: 4 feet
  • Light Required: Full sun
  • Pollinator: Self pollinating. Northern highbush variety. Plant 2 or more varieties for good production. Jersey would be a good choice as a pollinator.
  • Yield: Approximately 10 - 20 pounds at maturity with proper care.
  • Color: White flowers.
  • Foliage: Foliage turns red before dropping in the Fall.
  • Blooms: May
  • Fruit: Large to very large, firm, bright light-blue berries.
  • Zone: 4 - 7
  • Form: Deciduous woody bareroot, upright.
  • Soil Requirements: Acidic, moist, organic, well-drained soil. pH should be 4.5 to 5.5.
  • Growth Rate: Medium growth rate.
  • Pruning: Blueberries should be pruned during the Winter while the bushes are dormant. In Winter, flower buds are easily visible on one-year-old wood and their numbers can be adjusted by pruning to regulate the crop load for the coming year.
  • Size: 1/4 inch blossoms.
  • Comments: Fruit has small scar; crack resistance. Good subacid flavor. Foliage is somewhat sparse. Over-bears unless properly pruned. Bears for over a month. Fruit maintains good size. Moderately drought resistance. Withstands Spring frost.
