One of the more popular gourds to grow! Birdhouse Gourd vines bear light green, hourglass-shaped gourds that are the ideal size for hanging birdhouses. Gourds are usually 12-24 inches long with an 8-12 inch diameter. Gourds should be harvested in the fall when the shell becomes hard and glossy and before a killing frost. To make a birdhouse, allow the gourd to dry, cut an entrance hole, remove the seeds, and varnish or wax the gourd.
