  • Botanical Name: Phlox subulata 'Atropurpurea'; Family: Polemoniaceae (Phlox Family).
  • Height: 4 - 6 inches.
  • Spacing: 18 - 24 inches.
  • Depth: Same depth or slightly deeper than planted in the nursery.
  • Spread: 24 inches.
  • Light Required: Full sun
  • Color: Bright red blossoms.
  • Foliage: Thin needle-like green leaves.
  • Blooms: Early to mid Spring.
  • Zone: 4 - 9
  • Form: Perennial. Mound.
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained soil.
  • Growth Rate: Fast growth rate. 6 - 8 inches per year.

  • Comments: Water weekly first season while getting established and during prolonged hot, dry periods in subsequent years. Mix peat moss, compost or well-rotted manure deeply into the soil. In very cold areas plant may die back.
