Pickling Cucumbers

What are the best cucumbers for making pickles?

If you're planning on making pickles, Gurney's recommends growing a pickling cucumber—ones that are sweet, with a nice crunch and a small seed cavity. Pickling cucumbers are usually short and blocky with thin skins whereas slicing cucumbers are longer and bred for fresh eating. When selecting pickling cucumber varieties for your garden, select cucumber varieties that produce crisp, sweet fruits and also exhibit good disease resistance and produce high yields.
