Hardy but rampant
Posted By: Terence
Location: near Boston, MA United States
Comments:
I gave these a 5 because they did what I wanted them to do, grow near the road where the winter sanding and salt kills all other hedges. These will take plenty of salt abuse and keep on growing (they are a maritime native.) If you keep them trimmed so they develop sturdy stems, they also withstand being buried by the snowplows without matting down. They do sucker profusely and will invade lawns and fields with their VERY thorny stems. Applied food makes them bolder. I would not recommend these in a garden or flower border. The hips are large and quite flavorful, like apple, and they make a good jelly, if you can get em before the earwigs move in. I never spray them. They grow fine without it here.

Easy going rose

I ordered some of these roses several years ago and they now make a lovely hedge. They grow fast, need a lot of deadheading, the beetles love to eat the flowers and the roses send off suckers into the neighbors lawn (oops!) but I still love them!

Comments:
These roses are great flower's and make a great flowering hedge. It will keep on blooming as long as you keep deadheading. In august, stop deadheading and rose hip will change to a beautiful orangy red.
