Northstar Cherry Tree

A fast growing little tree - mine have peaked out at 7-8 ft. which makes them real easy to cover with bird proof netting - my meteor cherry tree at 10 plus ft. is a pain to protect. A half bushel of fruit is all I get per tree - maybe in warmer areas you could get 1 bushel as advertised - so you might need several of these. Extremely hardy since I'm in Northern Wisconsin and the trees see -30 almost every winter. Great cherry pie flavor, cans up nice and tastes better than store bought. Pits easy. A short, fruitful and tough little tree, enough said.

North Star Pie Cherry Tree

I ordered this tree many years ago now and it never has done that great! It got about 6 feet high and really never did anything else. It has never produced fruit. The reliance peaches right beside it were planted two years later and produce gallons of peaches every year! With the Carmine Jewell or any of the romance series cherries available why buy a north star? I suspect the North Star Pie Cherry Tree is good for some areas but I do not recommend it for mine! Carmine Jewell is also true to the roots which is nice if you have a bad winter and it dies back or deer or rabbit damage occur!

I have planted 2 of these trees. Grew great, blossom like crazy but not one cherry. Frustrating. I'll buy another variety but not these again.

I was very surprised with this little tree! I received it in the spring of 2010 and it was only about 12 tall. I fully did not expect anything for at least 2 or 3 years, but to my absolute amazement, the very.same spring I planted it, it only grew a few inches but had foliage and even fully ripened fruit! Unfortunately... the birds got to them first. :)

This is my 2nd such cherry tree. The kids grew up & moved out - thought I'd not want it anymore. Wrong! The first I had was a huge producer of cherries from the 2nd year to the 20th! No bugs, no problems with birds to speak of and so the 2nd tree is following the same pattern. It's going into its 3rd season and loaded in cherries. I make delicous jam, pie and also dehydrate them for breads, cookies, salads, and great in hot breakfast cereals.

I'm in Chicago at the Lakefront and this is a great tree so I'm ordering another for my front yard. It really does not get the brown rot, and I eat the cherries fresh right off the tree and enjoy them even more than the sweet cherries which I won't eat anymore because you don't know if the brown rot is on there yet or not...use lots of egg shells and bone meal and get tons of fruit. Now I'll have to freeze some, which is why I'm getting a second tree today
