Everyone loves the sweet taste of blackberries, but picking them can be painful experience. Triple Crown Blackberry plants are thornless and produce huge berries that have a complex and sweet flavor, without the sharp taste of some varieties. These perennial plants yield four to six quarts of luscious berries in late July. Triple Crown blackberries have an arching form. They spread 6 to 7 feet and reach a height of 10 to 12 feet, so plants need a trellis for support. Dark green leaves provide cover for the plentiful purple-black fruits, protecting them from sun scald.

Place Triple Crown blackberry plants 4 feet apart, with 12 feet between rows, matching their original planting depth in the nursery. They prefer a full-sun location and well-drained rich, moist soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.8. The self-pollinating plants do well in hardiness zones 5 to 9.

Enjoy the sweet and complex flavor of Triple Crown blackberries straight off the plant, or bake them in pies, cobblers or tarts. These lush berries will also add unique flavor and wonderful color to smoothies or your favorite mixed-fruit salad. Preserve fruit for later use by freezing whole, or use them to make jam or jelly. Add thornless Triple Crown blackberry plants to your garden and fall in love with these delicious sweet berries.

Best black berry for midwest
Reviewed By: Elaine westbrook (Ralston, NE)
We love our triple crown blackberries. If you pinch off the first year growth to about 36 inches, the plant puts out many side shoots-each side shoot the next year will have a cluster of blossoms. This technique will increase your years of berries.

Best Choice!
Reviewed By: Susan L. (Provo, UT)
I planted several Triple Crown plants I purchased from Gurney's about 5 years ago. It took them a year to get established. We have enjoyed fat and delicious berries every year. My neighbors are surprised by how large and sweet the berries are. And no thorns! I planted another variety I got from a neighbor at the same time, those berries are smaller with bigger seeds and not as sweet as the Triple Crown. Two of my gardening friends also grow berries and say Triple Crown is the best blackberry!

Good plants so far
Reviewed By: Brent (Marshall, IL)
I purcased 3 plants. They arrived with the roots plenty wet. Planted them in early april. Now its may and two out of three are growing really good. As for the third i am yet to see any growth. but for being a first time planter of something other than vegetables I am totally satisfied. Be even more satisfied next year when then they start producing.

Prolific Blackberry
Reviewed By: Malcolm Overton (Poseyville, Indiana)
I planted this Blackberry type three years ago and it is the largest, best tasting blackberry I have ever grown. It is prolific and productive. Picked 7 gallons off of ten plants in the second year and expect to do much better this coming year. It does better if it is trellised as it is simi trailing. It is easy to grow more plants by tip rooting.

outstanding thornless
Reviewed By: lucia stevenson (fallon, nevada)
I grew this on the recommendation of our local extension office. This was an outstanding performer. The berries are sweet, large and firm in texture inspite of our high desert climate. The Triple Crown is an absolute winner and keeper!
