Self Pollinating and Really Prolific

Stella Sweet Cherry Product Details

Botanical Name: Prunus avium 'Stella'

Height: 25 feet.

Spacing: 20 - 25 feet.

Depth: Plant with graft union 2 inches above the soil surface.

Spread: 20 - 25 feet.

Sun/Shade: Full sun.

Pollinator: Self-pollinating.

Yield: 3 - 4 bushels at maturity.

Color: White.

Foliage: Dark, shiny green foliage.

Blooms: April.

Fruit: Large, heart-shaped, dark red fruit with sweet, juicy flesh.

Form: Upright.

Soil Requirements: Well-drained, sandy, organic loam soil.

Pruning: Pruning; Prune only to maintain good structure. Trees too tall to harvest can be topped. Cut out leader just above 3/4 laterals. This will develop a modified leader scaffold. Cut out crowded center wood. No gaping holes.

Size: 1/2 inch blossoms.

Comments: Cherries do not like wet feet. Do not soak trees for over 24 hours prior to planting. If fertilized at planting, only use a slow release fertilizer. Attracts bees and birds. Leaves and twigs are poisonous. Sweet cherry. Very vigorous, productive tree. Fruit is moderately crack resistant. Planting: If using clay soil, incorporate 1/3 sand and 1/3 compost or composted manure. Planting site should have excellent drainage. Fill hole with water, should be completely drained in 1/2 hour.
