Botanical Name: Iris germanica 'Rip City'
Spacing: 18-24'' apart
Depth: Rhizomes should be slightly exposed.
Sun/Shade: Full Sun/Partial Shade
Color: Close to true carmine red with yellow-orange beards.
Foliage: Glaucous-green, sword-like fans of stiff upright leaves
Blooms: Mid to late spring; Duration 2-3 weeks
Flower Form: Typical iris with ruffled petals. Slightly sweet fragrance.
Soil Requirements: Well drained soil is preferred. Quite tolerant of a wide range of soils, but too much water will rot the rhizomes.
Growth Rate: Fast once established.
Pruning: Remove spent flower stems after flowering. Cut back foliage to 6'' fans in late fall. Clean plant debris before winter to prevent borers from over wintering.
Comments: Closest to a true carmine red as any other iris. High bud count keeps this iris blooming for weeks.
