Amazing Little Potato
Reviewed By: Robert (Salem, IN)
Grown in 2014, it produced a lot of potatoes. Most were smaller in size, smaller than russet. Some did grow very large, fist size and bigger. Excellent baked, or raw. Less starchy than any potato I have ever eaten. Be sure to dig deep and the skin is like a double skin, thin papery then a thick leathery skin. Ordering again for 2015. One last thing, they do not store as well as other potatoes. surprised because of the thick skin. Maybe because of the less starch they contain?

purple potato

I ordered this last year. It produced very well -- I was satisfied -but not as well as much as the ponitac red that does very well in clay soils. About half as much -- still every hill was filled with plenty of potatoes - most small but some very large. If you cook it and let it cool -- it has a waxy texture - and does wonderful if you shred it and dehydrate it to use later in the winter for recipes. We are on a low glycemic diet - low carb diet because of health reasons. Right now there is a lot of research going on that resistent starch is needed for gut health. Potatoes that are waxy are the ones that are lower on the glycemic diet - if you let them cool for a day before eating them the pontiac reds glycemic load is 55 -- low is consider 54 -- so that is pretty good. It would be my guess that the purple majestic would be even lower

We are still enjoying out harvest last fall - it's the middle of January. This potato keeps well. We love them mashed, scalloped, fried. The thick skin has deterred the onset of selenium on the peel as compared to our other potatoes. A must for next year's garden.
