Hard Worker
Reviewed By: Shane Finnerin (Linthicum Heights, MD)
I bought six plants for a very sunny hillside with sandy soil and good drainage. Two of the six died within three weeks. The remaining four have grown well and have started flowering and spreading. Non-native but effective.

Soil Stabilization
Reviewed By: Edward Ingle (Mills River, NC)
Crown Vetch and Sericea Lespedeza are great for stabilizing steep banks. Soil may need limestone to bring the pH up for best results from legumes. If the site stays sunny these crops will persist. If reforested these crops will be shaded out so they are a good first stage of plant succession choice. So grass with them since it takes about three years for the legumes to come into their own. No native plant will do the job of erosion control Crown Vetch and Sericea .

Great Soil Improver
Reviewed By: Ken Asmus (Lawton, MI)
I have used crown vetch many times.Yes its rhizome nature is aggressive but the benefits are many. It fixes nitrogen. Other trees and shrubs growing with it increase in growth rate. It can tolerate pollution and drought. Overtime it improves the soil making it easier for other plants to get established with it. It is not native but it is a fantastic work horse of a plant and is currently holding up millons of tons of topsoil along many of our nations highways.

Think before you plant
Reviewed By: D. Pease (Fond du Lac, WI)
This is not so much a review as a warning. Crownvetch will surely live up to its hype - it's been widely used to stop erosion along our highways. But it is an invasive exotic plant, and it's taking over! Please consider using something native to your part of the country, there are plenty of choices out there.
