Very sweet and firm, large O'Neal berries are held up by many as the best-flavored of the Southern High bush varieties. From mid May through mid June, the 4-ft to 6-ft. bushes are covered in delicious, medium blue berries. Attractive green-gray foliage turns to shades of orange to wine in fall. Wonderful for southern gardens, but is hardy as far North as zone 5. Zones 5-9. Potted plants.

Zones: 6 - 10 ( 0° F.).

Botanical Name: Vaccinium corymbosum 'O'Neal'; Family: Ericaceae

Height: 6 feet.

Spacing: 4 - 5 feet.

Depth: Plant at the same depth as in the nursery.

Spread: 4 - 6 feet.

Sun/Shade: Full sun to partial shade.

Pollinator: Self pollinating. Use Sharpblue, Georgia Gem or Cape Fear for cross pollination to increase yields.

Color: Creamy White.

Foliage: Medium green gray foliage with a medium glossy appeal.

Blooms: Spring.

Form: Upright.

Soil Requirements: Moist, well drained, acidic soil.

Growth Rate: 6 - 12 inches.

Size: 1/4 - 1/2 inch blossoms.

Comments: Good for Southern gardens. A low-chill highbush type. Requires 200 chilling hours. Introduced in 1987 by the USDA.
