  • Botanical Name: Lycopersicon lycopersicum 'Marianna's Peace'
  • Height: 6 - 8 ft Indeterminate
  • Spacing: Space transplants 14-20 inches apart for staked indeterminate varieties and 24-36 inches apart for unstaked indeterminate varieties.
  • Depth: Sow seeds indoors 1/4 inch deep, 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outside. For transplants, plant so soil level is just below the lowest leaves. Roots will form along the buried stem, establishing a stronger root system.
  • Spread: 2 - 3 ft
  • Sun/Shade: Full sun
  • Yield: Average to low.
  • Foliage: Green, potato-leaf.
  • Fruit: Potato-leaf variety of 1-2 lb pink/red, beefsteak tomato. Old-fashioned tomato flavor. Incredibly sweet, creamy, with dense red flesh. Good balance of acidity and sweetness

  • Form: Upright indeterminate variety that bear fruit over a long period of time. Typically require trellising or staking.

  • Soil Requirements: Clay or loam soils that are well drained and high in organic matter. Can tolerate acid soil as low as 5.5 but prefer 6.0-6.8 range.

  • Pruning: For better air circulation under the plant trim the bottom 16" of each plant of all stems and suckers other than 4-5 main stems. This will help to reduce the relative humidity around the base of the plants.
  • Comments: Has been touted as the world's best tasting tomato. Similar to Brandywine. Large size, excellent flavor. These seeds originate from the early 1900's.
