Worth Trying
Reviewed By: Mary Beheler (Ona, WV)
These are wonderfully dee-lish-us! I have started these plants for my Dad several different years now. I have learned to plant the seed pointed end up, so the cotyledons can break free of the seed husk more easily. Once, none of the Delight seeds germinated, though other melon varieties did just fine. Gurney's replaced it with a pack of seed that did grow. I'd never had trouble again, until this year, when all but one seed failed to come up. The guy that remarked that they germinate best at about 80 degrees is probably right. Lost power and heat was off for a while after the seeds were first planted, so they got a colder start than usual. I waited too late in the year for a do-over, and the heat going off was probably the problem, so I'm not asking Gurney's for a replacement this time. One year I tried a couple of commercial seed-starting mixes, instead of my usual 1/3 each peat, vermiculite, and perlite mix, with a little lime. Even seeds of normal watermelons didn't like the commercial mixes. One was awful, the other just poor. I won't try them again. Lesson: Pointed end up, good planting medium, and warmth all contribute to better success with the seeds of "seedless" melons.

The best seedless
Reviewed By: Chuck Yaniko Jr. (Ironton, Ohio)
I have grown these for about 10 years. The are not the largest seedless watermelon, they run 10 to 20 lbs, but they are absolutely the best tasting and the yields are good. All seedless melons take extra care to get good germination rates. Strt them a little earlier as they are slow starters, but they come one well after transplanting. I never direct seed.

Great!
Reviewed By: Rebecca Wilcoxon (Gallipolis, oh)
I bought these seeds because I couldn't imagine growing a bunch of seeded watermelons that I would not like to eat and we planted them outdoors because I hadn't read the negative reviews. Every seed germinated and I have several watermelons on each plant! The largest one is not even quite the size of a volleyball so far. I am hoping to eat my first watermelon in just a few days! O.k., maybe I'm rushing it!

Germination
Reviewed By: C Tidwell (Katy, TX)
I wrapped the seeds in a wet paper towel and put them in a baggy and put that on top of the refrigerator. All of them germinated in 3 days. Have not gotten further than that yet so we will see. Just wanted to let you know how to get them to germinate.

excellent melons
Reviewed By: Chuck Yaniko (Ironton, Ohio)
I have grown these melons for several years. Excellent flavor, sweetness and size. Yes germination rates are low, but they are low on ALL seedless melon seeds. If you do not overwater and allow a longer germination period the rates will be around 50 to 60 %. Keeping them too wet and or cold really slows the germination rate down. Overall these are the best seedless melons I have grown and I have tried several kinds. Friends cannot get enough of my extras!!!

I bought 3 packages of these seeds. Not one seed germinated. My Crimson Sweets grew great. This one is a disappointment.

Not very good
Reviewed By: Jon (Atlanta, GA)
Very poor germination rate. About 20%. Much worse than other seeds I got from Gurneys, which typically has a >90% rate. I used a good seed strating system and my other watermelon (Crimson Sweet) came out 100%.

Great melon
Reviewed By: Ren (Piedmont, South Carolina)
This is a very delicious sweet melon that's very easy to grow. Germinates well and grows well in the south. Unlike other melons that rot quickly after harvest, this one stores very well. It's the perfect size for coolers. I can fit one in a backpack and share it with others at work. The best part is that the melons are seedless.
