Forming a mat of needlelike, semi-evergreen foliage, 4-6" high, Pink Emerald blooms uniform rose-pink blossoms early to mid-spring. 2 plants cover 3 sq. ft., and are great for rock gardens, borders and ground cover. Cut back after flowering to encourage dense growth. Also known as Moss Pink or Ground Pink—plant thrives even in poor, gritty soil. Plant in full sun and expect a fast growth rate of about 6-8" per year. Perennial. Bareroot. Zones 3-9.

  • Botanical Name: Phlox subulata 'Pink Emerald'; Family: Polemoniaceae (Phlox Family).
  • Height: 4 - 6 inches
  • Spacing: 12 - 18 inches.
  • Depth: Plant with the stems of the plant 1/2 inch below the soil surface.
  • Spread: 18 - 24 inches.
  • Sun/Shade: Full sun.
  • Color: Uniform rose-pink blossoms.
  • Foliage: Semi-evergreen, needle-like foliage.
  • Blooms: Early to mid-Spring.
  • Form: Perennial. Prostrate mound.
  • Flower Form: Shear plants halfway back after bloom for more blossoms.
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained, gritty soil. Likes slightly alkaline soli.
  • Growth Rate: Rapid growth rate to 12 inches.

  • Comments: Water weekly first season and during long prolonged hot, dry periods in subsequent years. Mix peat moss, compost, or well-rotted manure deeply into the soil. May experience some browning during Winter if in a windy, frosty location. In very cold areas, plants may die back.
