Out of Season Charlotte Strawberry

Charlotte Strawberry

Released in France in 2009, Charlotte is being introduced to the United States this spring. This introduction from France is hands-down, the best ever-bearing strawberry we've tried. It combines a super-sweet flavor, beautiful red color and shape, as well as vigorous growth. Charlotte was the hands-down winner in our trials. It produced blooms and berries from June until fall—even when temperatures grew hot in July and August and other ever-bearing strawberries' production tapered off. Charlotte's also a very strong grower. While some other ever-bearing varieties hardly produce new plants, Charlotte quickly filled the strawberry beds with new plants.

Everbearers should not bear fruit with the first flush of flowers since they need their strength to establish the main plant and to sprout runners. Pinch or cut off the first flowers that form, allowing the flowers later in the season to produce fruit.
