Raise Big Beef Hybrid Tomato plants this summer for a bountiful harvest of 10- to 12-ounce flavorful fruits. Heavy yields of 100 pounds per 100-foot row are usual, and they reach maturity just 73 days after outdoor planting. The flesh of these deep red beefsteak tomatoes is firm and juicy, while the intense flavor brings back childhood memories of tomatoes fresh off the vine.

Lycopersicon lycopersicum 'Big Beef' is resistant to verticillium wilt, fusarium (races 1 and 2), nematodes, tobacco mosaic virus, stemphylium and alternaria. These annuals are suitable for hardiness zones 3 to 9. Sow your hybrid tomato seeds indoors about 6 to 8 weeks before the time when you'll transplant them outdoors. Plant the seedlings in well-drained, rich (pH 5.5 to 6.8) soil with exposure to full sun 18 to 24 inches apart and in rows 3 to 5 feet apart. Because they grow up to 8 feet tall, the plants need to be staked or grown within a tomato cage.

Add freshly picked Big Beef hybrid tomatoes to salads, slice them to accompany homemade burgers or add them to soups and casseroles. Be adventurous and pick some of your tomatoes when still green for sweet, tangy chutney or fried green tomatoes. Produce a bumper crop of Big Beef hybrid tomatoes this season and watch the family beg for more.

We've been growing this tomato for about 5 years. We try other varieties but Big Beef is the most dependable and productive, year after year. It produces tasty fruit from the beginning to the end of the season. We have a lot of fusarium, blight and crud in our soil and the heirloom tomatoes don't make it but this one always does. highly recommend.

Seed count
Reviewed By: Sam Henrichs (Spokane, WA)
Product description says 30 seeds. Don't know how they measure the packet, but I only got 18 good looking seeds. That's too pricey so I complained and of course they were great in addressing my problem and taking care of the issue. Looking forward to a great crop this summer.

Consistently Good

This tomato has an excellent disease resistance and namatode resistance package which is needed in the humid mid-south. I have raised this tomato in my garden for several years and will continue as long as seed are available. Excellent producer of large, firm and tasteful lower acid tomato.

Huge tomatoes
Reviewed By: Rachel (Indianapolis, IN)
I started these from seed a bit too early as they got too big pretty fast. However, they still did great in the garden and produced the largest tomatoes I've ever grown. I made an entire bowl of salsa from a single tomato. They had great flavor, too.

I started these seeds indoors and the germination rate is excellent! They were very easy to get started. I have little tomato plants all over the house now! :) I can't wait to see how they taste this summer.

Big Reliables
Reviewed By: PenelopeJoan (Portland, OR)
I've grown these the last two years with red mulch. I also grew other varieties both cherry and full size. These are the top producers for me. Also, the second year I used Gardens Alive Tomato fertilizer and not only had good yield of large tomatoes, I didn't get the blossom end rot I've struggled with for several years.
