Yukon Gold Potato Product Details

Botanical Name: Solanum tuberosum 'Yukon Gold'; Family: Solanaceae (Nightshade Family)

Height: 24 - 36 inches.

Spacing: 12 to 15 inches with 30 - 36 inches between rows.

Depth: 3 to 5 inches.

Spread: 18 - 24 inches.

Sun/Shade: Full sun.

Yield: 100 lbs per 100 foot row.

Fruit: Yellow fleshed, smooth yellow skin, shallow eyes.

Days To Maturity: Early potato - 60 - 80 days to maturity.

Form: Upright.

Soil Requirements: Fertile, well-drained sandy loam soil. pH 4.8 - 5.4. Will grow on higher pH, sometimes become scabby.

Seed Count: 2 lbs. of seed potatoes will make about 10 - 15 potato sets when cut.

Comments: Fertilize at planting time. Sprinkle a tablespoon of 10-10-10 fertilizer in the space between each potato piece. Do not apply the fertilizer directly to the potatoes as it can burn the tubers. After plants are 8 - 10 inches tall, use a hoe and pile several inches of soil up around the stems. This is called hilling. This prevents exposure to the sun which causes tubers to become green and inedible. Harvest after tops turn yellow. Can be stored at 40 - 50 degrees F. (cooler temps turn starch to sugar and warmer temps may cause them to sprout).

EXCELLENT!

My daughter and I enjoy planting a garden together every summer. The challenge is keeping my husband and boys out of our peas. A few summer's ago we planted Yukon Gold Potatoes and had a wonderful yeild as well as extremely yummy mashed potatoes. We will be continuing to plant these potatoes in years to come as they are super easy to take care of, give a great yeild and are super super yummy.

Best Potato Around
Reviewed By: Jessica (New Vienna, OH)
This is the second year we planted these and my husband and I were out in the garden counting the days to harvest. These are by far the best tasting potatoes we have ever grown - thin skinned and easy to 'smash' with a buttery flavor like no other.

PO-TA-TOES!
Reviewed By: Micah Wade (Spokane, WA)
when I got the potatoes from gurneys, they were in perfect condition with planting instructions. I planted them ASAP. Being that it was my first year growing potatoes the plants kind of suffered, but when it came time to harvest I was very impressed with the large, tasty potatoes from the harvest. I made my youth group (who are indeed Lord of the Rings fans) grommet mashed PO-TA-TOES which were highly enjoyable!
