Comments: UNPACK PLANTS IMMEDIATELY: The plants you have received are alive and growing. Due to shipping they may show some signs of distress. If the tops of the plants are damp or mushy when received, loosen the bundles and spread them out so tops will dry. If plants appear very dry or discolored, and planting cannot be done soon after receipt, place the roots only in cool water for only a few hours. Take care not to let the tops get wet or damp. Your plants will revive as soon as planted, so plant them as quickly as possible. Plants will normally keep about two weeks if planting is delayed. SOIL PREPARATION: Apply a balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10 or 10-20-10 at the rate of two pounds per 100 square feet (1 cup for 10 square feet) and work into soil. Onions prefer a pH level of 6 to 7. Prepare raised beds at least 5" high and 20" wide. Rows should be spaced on 35" centers, with 15" spacing between rows. TO PLANT: Plant approximately 1 inch deep with 5 to 6 inch spacing between plants (2 to 3 inch spacing if you plan to thin later for green onions). Water immediately. GROWING CARE (WATER & FERTILIZATION): Ample water is important at all stages of growth, especially when bulbs are forming. The best method is by ditch or furrow irrigation. This provides water to the roots while keeping the tops dry. If the tops are regularly wet they are more susceptible to disease. About three weeks to a month after transplanting fertilize with a high nitrogen fertilizer (21-0-0) at a rate of 1 cup per 20 feet of row. Repeat every 3 to 4 weeks. Always water immediately after feeding. Onions prefer a pH level of 6 to 7; your local agricultural extension service can assist you in determining your soil pH and adjusting it. HARVEST AND STORAGE: Harvest your onions when the tops fall over. Pull and let dry on the ground for a few days. Do not allow them to get wet or rained upon. When tops have dried out, clip off an inch from the bulb and store in a ventilated area. The preferred way to stor

What a surprise!
Reviewed By: Kim Walker (Tuscola, IL)
This is the first time I actually purchase onions through a seed company. Wow, did I ever pick some good ones. These surpassed my expectations by a mile. I was purchasing onion sets at local farm/garden store...never again. They grew huge and solid, did the harvesting as required and now are hanging for winter storage. Forgot to mention they have excellent flavor also. If the do hold up well through winter storage, then I will be purchasing these for years to come.

Sweetest and best onion I have ever eaten. Cannot be beaten for raw on hamburgers. There are no tears when cutting and the flavor is so mild that it does not over power anything. Here it is, mid February and they are still firm and delicious. Great Keepers.

Wonderful Onions
Reviewed By: Michelle (Springboro, OH)
I decided to plant onions for the first time this year, and I was dismayed when we had one of the wettest springs on record. These onions tolerated the all of the rain and standing water - I didn't lose a single plant. The onions are wonderful and are storing very well.

Super Even In VT Mtns
Reviewed By: Julie Ann (Williamstown, VT)
Have grown these both from plants and from seed (started indoors in February, south window in cool, never freezing, garage - they did NOT like my sun room - too hot!) Huge onions, fabulous crop both ways, even at nearly 2000 ft elevation in the mountains of Vermont! Have nearly 200 in cool dry room now: they are keeping beautifully and a treat every day! Just as good as Vidalias and much more reasonably priced! Fun to grow.

Candy Hybrid Onion the Best
Reviewed By: Peter A. Ostheimer (Findlay, OH)
The Candy Hybrid Onion is the best onion I have ever had. Good on sandwiches, excellent in chili, and excellent in other dishes. This onion keeps well during the winter as well. I gave several to relatives last year and got requests this year to order plants for them. The only regret is I got requests to order additional plants and currently none are available. Once again, best onion I have ever eaten.

We planted these onions last season, and couldn't have been happier with them. They grew fantastic, even in our hot dry climate. They are softball size, and taste great. It's almost February, and I still have several onions left from last year. I cooked with some last night, and you couldn't tell they had been hanging in the closet for many months. Highly recommend, and will definitely order again!

Softball Size SWEET Onions
Reviewed By: Amy Lembke (Reeseville, WI)
I have bought these for 2 years since we moved to our farm. I always buy the plant bunches, and this year I tried the seeds. I won't do the seeds again until I get a green house up because they didn't all take. The plants do SO well and the onions are just huge! Some were BIGGER than a soft ball. They keep well and freeze well. They even did really well in our extremely wet flood in June/July here in WI. They even grow well in the weeds if you can't get to them right away. I will continue to buy this onion for years and years to come. Excellent!
