Sunshine Blue Blueberry

Sunshine Blue Blueberry

Performs in the North and South

  (3 customer reviews)

This semi-dwarf variety may be the easiest blueberry to grow. Needs less cold weather to produce fruit, so it’s ideal for Southern gardens, yet still cold hardy enough to perform in the North as well. Tolerates lower acid soil than most others. Berries ripen in late June; long fruiting period. Grows to 3-4 ft. tall and bears delightful, hot pink blooms. Potted. Zones 5-10.

The spring 2013 shipping season has ended, this item will ship at the proper fall planting time.

This item ships at the proper planting time for your region in both spring and fall.
If the current shipping season is closed, your order will ship at the proper time in the next season.

Product Details
Zones: 5-10
Height: 3-4'
Spacing: 3-4 ft
Depth: plant at the same depth as in the nursery
Spread: 3-4'
Sun/Shade: Sun to partial Shade
Pollinator: Other blueberries, but not necessary; better with pollinators
Yield: Medium
Foliage: Blue-green, burgandy fall foliage
Blooms: spring
Fruit: Medium fruit size, sweet flavor, dark blue
Comments: Sunshine Blue has it all. This semi-dwarf, versatile evergreen blueberry features showy hot pink flowers that fade to white in spring, yielding large crops of delicious berries. Sunshine Blue tolerates higher pH soils better than many other blueberries and it is self-pollinizing. The low chilling requirement of 150 hours makes it suitable for warmer climates, but we find it is surprisingly cold-hardy and a wonderful addition to any garden. Excellent ornamental variety. Sweet medium sized berries.

Fantastic plant
Reviewed By: Kerri (Grand rapids, Mi)
I received these plants too early, when there was still lots of snow on the ground, ground was frozen and plants were not dormant as they should have been. Kept them in garage for a couple of weeks, as long as I was told I could. Planted and they turned color, as if fall. Came back to life and grew like crazy! Plants grew from 3 8" branches (with flowers already on them) to tons of branches making the plant about 2 feet wide and tall. Good production given the size also. I will always order my blueberries from Gurney's now! Poor growth experience with other nurseries.

I find it halarious that review states this blueberry grows great up and down the west coast, yet they aren't able to ship to CA or OR. Hahaha! "The low chilling requirement of 150 hours makes it suitable for Southern California, but we find it is surprisingly cold-hardy and a wonderful addition to our gardens here in the Pacific Northwest."

Great Little Producer!!

We've had this plant in a 16" planter on the patio for 4+ years and this year we got our best crop yet!! Roughly 5-6 lbs of berries with a good taste. The pink flowers are less 'hot' pink than baby pink but I don't keep it for flowers anyway. We have had warm winters and recently, cold winters and it has done just fine!
