Spacing: Space seed when planting 3-4 in., in rows 36-48 in. apart. Thin to 24-36 in. apart. Space plants widely, since they will eventually grow to 5 feet in height and more than 40" in width.
Depth: 1/4 in. - 1/2 in.
Spread: 4 ft.
Sun/Shade: Full sun
Days To Maturity: Harvest of chokes begins as early as 150 days (direct sow), 85 days (from transplant)- continues for up to 3 months with moderate weather and good soil fertility.
Yield: Nearly 3X the yield of older varieties - Green Globe had 6-10 buds per plant. Yields of 3 1/2" - 4" chokes (preferred by the fresh market) vary from 400 - 500 cartons per acre. Cartons average 23 lbs each with 24 or 36 chokes per carton.
Fruit: Primarily green globes, can have some purple tinting
Comments: Produces big tasty chokes the first season from seed, unlike older varieties that could take multiple seasons. Produces up to 3x the yield of older varieties and chokes hold on the plant better. Thornless for easy picking.
