Rainier, MD) This plant must be a true Nikko Blue... I have never had a Nikko Blue turn pink. First bud are green. As flowers get bigger they turn blue and finally a maroon/mauve color when they die. Its name is somewhat deceiving though because in soils with a pH higher than 6.5 the blooms are pink instead of blue.  -  Monday, June 21, 2010 Does not bloom in Zone 5 Reviewed By: Greg (Milwaukee, WI) This plant will not bloom in Zone 5. I bought this plant for the blue blooms. My plant was covered in mulch and burlap over the winter. It dies back to the ground and the new growth does not flower. I now have a nice big green plant that will never flower. This is not for zone 5. The blue is vivid with aluminum sulfate sprinkled around it.
