Reviewed By: Kim Gilbertson (Barnesville, MN) Living up here in NW Minnesota, tree cherries are only a dream. So we planted some Hansen's and some Nanking bush cherries. The Nanking were small and pretty useless for anything but jelly, and the taste was not great either. But the Hansen's were terrific. Not only did they grow better, their fruit really looked and tasted like tree cherries. The mice finally got ours so I'm ordering some more!  -  Friday, June 20, 2008 Hansen's Pie Cherrys Reviewed By: Wayne Cunningham (Clovis, CA) I planted 6 bushes 2 yrs ago and according to instructions they will fruit in the 2 yr. They did I pick about 2+ lbs of them and I plan on picking some more as they ripen. The taste is not what I exspected I was looking for something in the line of Black Cherries. The Hansen are juicy and small & for me I think they be better used for pies and jellies. Some of the berries are a little to tart for my taste. But that just me I am sure with a little sweeter & a preboil they make great pie fillings and or jams/jellies. They eventually got crowded out by evergreens and the rabbits also chewed them off. They were better flavored and larger than the Nanking. I also have the Carmine Jewel cherry and these are much hardier.
